About Us

From the begining to now

The Halls Harbor Road Church of Christ began as the Seaside church of Christ meeting on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1987. The first meetings were held in the Kitty Hawk Elementary School at Mile Post 1 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. In 1997, the church began renting a building located at Mile Post 11 in Nags Head, North Carolina. After that first service on the island the church grew in attendance to 25 local members. During the spring and summer seasons, the church is blessed with hundreds of visiting brothers and sisters, with an attendance as high as 50 people. We have had brothers and sisters come from all over the United States, and even a family from Munich, Germany worshiped with us. The visitors are delighted to have a church to worship with while on the Outer Banks. In June 2002, the church was finally able to secure a full time preacher. Donnie McGhee, a 1996 graduate of the East Tennessee School of Preaching and Missions, accepted an invitation to come and be the full-time preacher for the congregation. Donnie, his wife Tamara, and their two sons, Adam and Jason, were a blessing and much needed infusion into the congregation. The McGhee family has been known by the members of the Halls Harbor Road church of Christ since its inception in 1987, and came with many recommendations from several elders, deacons, church members in North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Virginia. In October of 2015 Donnie and Tamara moved away to be closer to their son in the Western part of North Carolina. Colonel Pratt from Hopewell, VA is now the minister who is joined by Kelly Pratt, his wife. Colonel graduated from Ohio Valley University with a B.A. in Bible and served as a missionary with Kelly in Japan for 10 weeks and in China for five years before coming to our congregation.

We were blessed with gifts from so many supporters to buy some land and build a modest building at 100 halls harbor road in Harbinger NC two miles north of the Outer Banks just across the Wright Memorial Bridge. We thought it best to change our name at that time to make it easier for people to find us. Formerly the Seaside church of Christ, our new name is Halls harbor road Church of Christ.  We continue to exist thanks to the providence of God and the generosity of brothers and sisters from several churches, but the church here is in constant need of financial support.

Be Our Partner

We strive to be as a place for people in our community to worship and learn more about what it means to be a Christian. We also strive to be a church home away from home for those who are visiting the area. In order to reach these goals, we need your your help. We know there are churches reaching out to the entire world to preach the Gospel, but we must remember that our own nation’s mission works still need continued support. Any financial amount that can be contributed to the cause would be greatly appreciated. If a long-term monthly commitment can be made, it would go a long way towards helping us spread the Gospel here in the Outer Banks. We don't expect any one church to carry the entire burden. We are asking individual brothers and sisters as well as congregations to please do their very best; for you have our word we will continue to do our best. Please help us continue to spread the gospel here on the Outer Banks. If you are willing and able, please click the link at the top of the page for more information on how you can give.

Thank you for taking the time to read about us. We are truly a mission field that has financial needs. If there are any churches that would like to help a stateside mission field, please consider the Halls harbor road church of Christ.  Please keep our work in your prayers.
